Samsung launched its new range of digital cameras for the second half of 2008 in Germany last week.
Among the new models available from the company is the NV 100HD, which is described by Steves-Digicams. com as the “flagship” for the new line.
The camera offers the highest resolution of any compact to date at 14.7 megapixels, as well as a three-inch hVGA LCD screen.
Photography enthusiasts looking for something to use while on the go may find the NV9 a more appealing option than the slightly larger NV 100HD.
In addition to its 10.2 megapixels and 2.7-inch LCD, this gadget also offers an MP3 player and text viewer.
Buyers looking for a balance between the two models may wish to opt for the 13.6-megapixel L310W, which features a wide-angle optical zoom lens, Dual Image Stabilisation and 11 different scene modes.
Those who wish to completely forgo paper may wish to invest in one of Samsung’s new LCD photo-frames, which went on sale on September 1st.

A new digital camera from Samsung has been praised for its ability to act as a companion for the travelling consumer.
Trusted Reviews reports that the Samsung i8 is clearly an attempt at fusing a number of gadgets into one handy travel item, in that incorporates an mp3 player, text viewer and multimedia playback.
The article also notes that as the 8.2-megapixel camera is available in a wide range of colours and can be purchased for under £100, making it “not bad value for money”.
Overall, the site concludes that the Samsung i8 is “a fairly good attempt to turn a digital camera into an all-in-one travel gadget,” adding that “it performs well, with particularly good low light capability and the built-in mp3 player works well”.

A new digital camera from Samsung has been praised for its ability to multi-task in a new review.
Register Hardware states that in the modern world, it is becoming increasingly popular for manufacturers to offer multi-purpose gadgets and this is exactly what the Samsung NV4 does.
It states that the 8.2-megapixel model not only comes equipped with a 2.5-inch screen and 3x optical zoom, but is also a multimedia player that can record and play video, play mp3s and read text files.
The Samsung NV4’s body is praised as “very classy” and is available in four colours - silver, black, pink and titanium - and the reviewer concludes could very well be “the Swiss Army Knife of digital cameras”.
Other stylish digital cameras in the South Korean manufacturer’s range include the Samsung Digimax i8, which comes in pale blue and is equipped with and 8.2-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD screen.

A new competition has been launched that could encourage lovers of the outdoors to reach for their digital cameras.
The International Garden Photographer of the Year, which is organised in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, will offer entrants the chance to win a top prize and prestigious title, Digital Camera Magazine reports.
In addition to more than £20,000 worth of cash and equipment, the winning snapper will be given the honour of being the Garden Photographer of the Year and will see their work exhibited in a “major exhibition” at Kew next summer.
“Categories include Plant Portraits, People in the Garden and 2009’s special theme, World Botanic Gardens,” the site advises, adding that the entry fee is £10 and applicants must have their pictures in by January 31st 2009.
With a range of digital cameras available to suit most pockets - from the 7.2-megapixel Samsung Digimax S760 to the 14-megapixel Sigma DP1 - there is no excuse for budding photographers to get involved.

Samsung has launched a new high-end digital camera model to become the flagship of the NV range.
Gadget review site Pocket-lint said the Samsung NV100HD is set to build on the success of the Samsung NV24HD.
The new digital camera is apparently the world’s highest 14.7-megapixel 28 mm wide angle lens.
In addition the Samsung NV100HD uses the company’s Matrix Menu “give the user fast access to creative settings as well as intuitive control of images, for example, a simple X on the screen signifies delete”.
The company said the three-inch hVGA LCD screen has been designed with 460K pixels to deliver a sharper and more detailed image.
In addition the 7720p resolution video in the digital camera records at up to 30 frames per second.
On sale from August 2008, the camera is available in black, red, silver or gold for £229.
Samsung is also launching the Samsung NV9 which contains 10.2-megapixels and a 2.7 inch LCD display screen.

New models have been launched as part of Samsung’s 2008 second-half digital camera range.
The four cameras are called the Samsung TL34HD, Samsung SL310W, Samsung TL9 and Samsung SL201.
According to the company, the digital cameras will deliver new technologies to the market.
Samsung TL34HD has a 14.7-megapixel resolution and is Samsung’s most advanced point-and-shoot camera. It has a three-inch display screen which supports the touch screen software included in the camera.
With a 2.7-inch LCD screen, the Samsung TL9 is ultra-compact and contains MP3 to make it a multimedia product.
Including in this camera is face detection technology which “detects up to nine faces and automatically adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality”. In addition, Smile Shot ensures the camera only takes a photo when it detects smiles.
The Samsung SL201 has a self portrait function which only allows the camera to take a picture if it detects the person is positioned in the middle of the frame.
In other news, Samsung announced this week it was to provide the first seven-year long warranty for a hard disk drive.

In addition to a 14.7 and 13.6-megapixel model, Samsung has unveiled two new
cameras that could appeal to the more entry-level user.
The manufacturer this week announced it would offer the 14.7-megapixel TL34HD and 13.6-megapixel SL310W. However, for those looking for something with a lower specification the Samsung TL9 and SL201 may be of interest.
Samsung’s TL9 is an ultra-compact model with a ten megapixel sensor and a 2.7-inch LCD screen. The unit offers a 5x optical zoom and incorporates dual image stabilisation as well as face detection, smile shot and blink detection technology.
The 10.2-megapixel Samsung SL201 has a number of similar features but is equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens and 11 scene modes and Function Description.
“Function Description provides a brief and easy-to-understand description of each setting when scrolling through the camera’s menus, helping the end-user determine which setting is appropriate,” the manufacturer states.
The Samsung Digimax i8 Blue is an 8.1-megapixel model currently available that also features Function Description and a Photo Help Guide.

Samsung is set to add to its range of compact digital cameras with four new models - one of which has a 14.7-megapixel sensor.
The manufacturer announced this week that for the second half of 2008, the Samsung TL34HD will be launched alongside its TL9, SL310W and SL201 models.
It is reported that in addition to a 14.7-megapixel sensor, the Samsung TL34HDwill be equipped with a Schneider lens that has a 28mm wide-angle focal lens capable of 3.6x optical zoom.
“The TL34HD promises sharp, clear and detailed images with every shot … [and] builds upon the success of its predecessor, the NV24HD,” the manufacturer claims.
In addition, dual image stabilisation, an all-metal build, three-inch LCD touch-screen technology and Samsung’s Smart Touch 2.0 user interface are also included in the model - which is available in black or silver with red accent.
The Samsung Digimax S760 is currently available for under £60 and with a pixel count of 7.2 million could be an option for those on a stricter budget.

Samsung claims to be leading the field for innovation and quality with its range of digital cameras.
The manufacturer, which currently has models such as the 8.1-megapixel Samsung Digimax i8 Blue in its range, states that a new model pushes the boundaries of high definition (HD) photography.
It states that the NV 24HD offers “the world’s first 24mm ultra wide angle lens” and, according to Ashraf Sajid, general manager of audio visual products at Samsung’s Gulf Electronics division, sets a benchmark in the sector.
“Photographers of all levels will now be able to create high-quality video recordings at the touch of a button,” he added.
The Samsung NV 24HD is a 10.2-megapixel model that, in addition to the 24mm ultra wide angle lens, is equipped with Samsung’s Dream Engine image correction technology.
Samsung’s Digimax i8 Blue, on the other hand, features a 3x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD screen and DIS technology to tackle image clarity and colour degradation issues.

Samsung has been awarded the title of Best Ultra Compact Digital Camera at a recent event organised by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
Infibeam reports that the manufacturer was praised for its high definition (HD) NV24HD premium digital camera - with one spokesman highlighting the unit’s 24mm ultra wide angle lens.
The spokesman suggested that Samsung had produced a lens with the specific intention of minimize the number of distorting effects as well as make the most of the wide angle effect.
“It also received high marks for being the world’s first digital camera to utilize a next generation AM OLED display,” he said.
Among Samsung’s other high performance compact cameras is the
Digimax L210, which offers a 10.2 million pixel resolution, has a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch LCD display.
The camera supports SD, SDHC and MMC cards, and is available in red and black.
