If you are heading off to a festival such as Glastonbury or Leeds this summer then capturing the memories on camera are likely to be on the to-do list.
With this in mind, ShortList magazine has reviewd a few models currently on the market, ranging from £130 to £180.
The Olympus MJU 850 Tough (£180) was first up, with eight megapixels and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.
It is not only shockproof and freezeproof but also waterproof - which might be a good thing considering the traditionally gloomy British summer weather.
Fujifilm’s FinePix Z20fd was next on the reviewer’s plate, coming equipped with ten megapixels, a 2.5-inch screen and a “party mode” for night-time photographs. It will cost you £130 and is “great for capturing the full story of the night”.
Finally, the Canon Ixus 75 - also £130 - is described in the review as “clever”. Seven megapixels, a touch-control dial and face detection technology make this a nifty camera for those who want to “look the part”, it added.

An eight-megapixel camera currently offered as part of Samsung’s product line-up has been described as a “must-have” for the festival season.
According to ShortList magazine, the Samsung NV4 could be an ideal purchase for music lovers to capture their favourite moments on film this summer.
It has a 3x optical inner zoom lens and a 2.5-inch screen for convenience with the added bonus of mp3 functionality, the magazine reported.
This means fans can listen to even more music “long after the bands have finished playing”.
Samsung describes the NV4 as an “extraordinary all-in-one solution” but there are lots of other digital cameras available in the NV series, including the NV40.
It comes equipped with ten megapixels of picture-taking power and also has innovative face-detection software, which can give a sharper result and all-round better photos.

The Samsung NV8 high-spec digital compact camera is “very stylish” and easy to control, a recent review has claimed.
According to TrustedReviews. com, the 8.1-megapixel camera was released in August 2007 at the same time as Samsung’s NV15 and NV20 models.
It features a 2.5-inch display monitor, as well as a 3x optical zoom in a “smart contemporary design” that “doesn’t sacrifice usability for style”.
The camera’s black finish was applauded for its resistance to scratches and marks, while its small size allows it to easily be transported in a handbag or a jacket pocket on a night out.
Comparable in price to digital compacts such as the Nikon Coolpix S210, the Canon Powershot A580 and the Olympus FE-280, the camera boasts an “unusual” design and set of features, which could make it an appealing choice.
According to the manufacturer, the camera comes with advanced shake reduction technology, as well as an auto contrast balance feature, which it claims ensures “a perfectly exposed image”.

The newest digital SLR offering from Samsung is aimed at the “discerning” photography enthusiast, according to Amateur Photographer.
The Samsung GX-20 is the first in the company’s range of DSLR items to feature a CMOS imaging sensor manufactured by the firm.
It is thought the camera will be officially released in March and will include an 18-55mm lens.
According to the review, the Samsung GX-20 is thought to contain similar features to the latest release from Pentax - the K20D - which was announced this week.
The camera’s features include dual dust reduction, with 72 seals in place to protect it from moisture and dust, as well as an enhanced digital filter, which is thought to be able to enhance images after they have been taken.
It is expected to follow in the footsteps of the Samsung GX-10, which has an OPS shake-reduction system and a three-second recharging time, according to the manufacturer.

A new digital camera offering from Samsung may be a good choice for travellers, a reviewer has claimed.
The Samsung i8, applauded for its functionality as both a camera and an mp3 player, has face detection technology, as well as an image stabilisation function to cancel out the effects of a shaky-handed photographer, according to ThinkCamera. com.
As well, the 8.1 megapixel camera offers a 2.7-inch touch screen control and is billed to be a skimmed-down version of Samsung’s more complicated 7.2-megapixel i7 model.
The camera builds upon the company’s i85 model, which has previously been presented with a CES Innovations Award.
“Samsung’s i-Series of ultra-compact digital cameras offers consumers features not found in any other digital camera on the market,” Stewart Henderson, vice-president of marketing for Samsung’s US opt-electronics division.
Backpackers may be particularly interested in the World Tour Guide function, which providers users with “instant access to travel information” on over 30 countries and 2,600 regions.
The Samsung i8 will be available in stores in February.

Samsung has this week announced a number of new cameras, including the next generation of its L-series models.

All of these cameras have been described by the firm as “easy to use” and have a number of features such as digital image stabilisation and intelligent face recognition.
Face recognition technology allows the camera to automatically detect faces in frame and will set the focus and exposure to ensure that images are well composed.
The new Samsung L100 features an 8.1-megapixel sensor, while the other two new models both have 10.1-megapixel sensors.
Each of the cameras has a 2.5 inch display and all can record short movie clips, at a rate of 30 frames per second.

It was cameras galore this weekend at Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show (CES), with one Samsung range being noted for its use of the very latest technology.
A total of three cameras were unveiled at the event, which aims to showcase the next and hottest technology products in the world.
According to Dpreview. com, the NV40 was Samsung’s first new creation to be displayed. Ten megapixels and dual-image stabilisation combine with a 3x zoom to make an effective model, while a 2.5-inch display could be ideal for all users prepared to shell out £199.
The NV30 provides eight million pixels for the owner to enjoy, while replacing optical stabilisation to a completely electronic one. It is set to be priced at £179 upon release next month, the website said.
Lastly, the NV4 is labelled the “baby” of the range, utilising eight megapixels and “a more conventional button arrangement”. A price tag of £149 is expected.
This year’s CES runs from January 7th to 10th.

The Samsung GX-10 Digital SLR camera has been noted as a model that is “very good” and “feature packed” for the price in a new review.
Although the camera has been developed in conjunction with Pentax, the models from both producers are very similar in a number of ways, the review states.
But the Samsung camera has custom settings that are more easy to understand than some of the features on the Pentax camera, the review suggests.
In terms of performance, the Samsung GX-10 sits in a similar position to a number of its rivals. Shooting times are broadly the same as its peers, although it has been noted that there were “occasional” issues with the focus locks, particularly with close-up shots.
“The photos are very sharp,” the review states, but exposures were generally slightly too dark.
Overall, however, the camera does not offer any improvements or differences from its twin model on offer from Pentax.
Samsung is currently offering £50 cashback on the GX-10.

Samsung has announced a promotion on one of its SLR models, the Samsung GX10.
The camera, which comes complete with a 10.2 megapixel sensor, a shake reduction system and a sealed body, among other features, is available with £50 cashback from the manufacturer until the end of January.
A range of different lenses are available on the camera, but for those bought with just the 18-55 mm lens or as a set with the 18-55 mm and the 50-200 mm lenses, a cashback offer is available from the manufacturer.
A dust removal system helps to keep the sensor spotless, allowing images to be clear every time.
The Samsung GX10 also has a 95 per cent field of view, meaning that almost all of what is seen through the viewfinder ends up on the photo.
Features such as multiple frame shooting allow the user to take up to three shots each second, making the model suitable for action or sport photography, among other things.
The camera also offers multiple exposure shooting, so more than one image can be taken in the same frame, which can make for some interesting shots.
