Sony boosts Cyber-shot range

A new addition to the Sony Cyber-shot range offers “style and substance”, the manufacturer says.

The Sony Cyber-shot T500 includes 10.1 million pixels with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 5x optical zoom lens, a 3.5-inch display and touch screen functionality.

However, the camera also enables users to capture video clips in high-definition quality – something fans of beautiful images might be excited about.

Clips can be up to ten minutes long and use stereo sound to record audio.

The Sony Cyber-shot T500 is available in black, silver or red and the company says it is easy to switch between photo and video modes using a button at the top of the camera.

It also features a Dual Anti-Blur solution and High Sensitivity mode.

Meanwhile, another option for those looking to purchase a compact camera might want to check out the Canon Powershot A470 Grey, which has 7.1 million pixels and a 3.4x optical zoom.

Sony offers ‘part camera, part album’

A new digital camera from Sony makes the most of its ability to show off its shots, a new review suggests.

Cnet reports that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 addresses the “miserable” experience of scrabbling around for images on your camera by treating its storage as a kind of portable digital photo album.

It states many models have “pathetically small and visually underwhelming” displays and make picture-sharing with friends difficult, but this is not the case with the Sony model.

It notes that in addition to being a “well-rounded point-and-shoot camera”, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 is capable of displaying its captured moments on a 3.5-inch screen and can store up to 40,000 of them.

The T700 is a ten-megapixel model with a Carl Zeiss lens, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization, Smile Shutter, and touchscreen technology.

Other similar models in the company’s range include the ten-megapixel Sony Cybershot T300, which is available in red, silver and black.

Sony has been praised for its innovation in technology, including a number of accolades for its digital photography equipment.

The company took five honours at this year’s European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awards, including recognition for its contribution to the digital camera and high definition camcorder market.

In addition to winning in the best European HD Flash Camcorder category for the HDR-TG3, Sony came top in the European Camera section for the 14.2-megapixel a350 and took the European Lens award for its 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM model.

Commenting on the awards, Sony Europe’s president Fujio Nishida said that that the event was an important one for the company to be recognised at as the accolades come from a “highly respected source”.

“Everything we do is ultimately geared to producing better products for our consumers, so to be honoured with five awards is welcome evidence that we are succeeding,” he said.

Sony also offers a range of compact digital cameras including its Cyber-shot series of models.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 launched

Sony has added to its range of Cybershot cameras with a new model that the manufacturer claims is “slim and stylish”.

The 10.1-megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 is a slim and compact digital camera that comes in five colours and features a host of extras that aim to bring better images to users.

Sony’s Smile Shutter technology is included to automatically capture smiling faces and this is accompanied by Face Detection and Anti-Blink systems. Optical SteadyShot is also included to provide crisper, clearer photographs.

A Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens is also built into the camera making it the “world’s slimmest” to offer this and a three-inch touchscreen and Intelligent Scene Recognition also feature.

“[The Sony Cybershot DSC-T77 is] available in a range of five mouthwatering colours including black, silver, pink, green and brown,” the manufacturer states.

Other colourful models from the manufacturer include the 7.2-megapixel Sony Cybershot W120 - which comes in black, silver, pink and blue.

Sony turns camera into “photo album”

A new 10.1-megapixel from Sony claims to be a “photo album in your pocket”.

The Sony Cybershot DSC-T700 was announced by the manufacturer this week and in addition to a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a host of features the camera has an integrated 4GB memory.

Sony claims that this is enough storage to store up to 40,000 photos and in addition to this have included a range of album functions that make saving, organising and sharing images easier.

Smile Shutter, Face Detection and Anti-Blink technology is included in the digital camera and five colour options - black, silver, gold, pink and red - have been chosen to finish the unit.

“The [Sony Cybershot DSC-T700] is smarter than your average photo album. All your pictures are stored in handy folders, so it’s easy to manage your memories and track down that special shot in moments,” Sony claims.

Other models in the range include the 8.1-megapixel Sony Cybershot T70 which is equipped with a 3x optical zoom and three-inch LCD screen.

Sony’s teasing new digital camera announcement

Sony could have a surprise in store for fans of its extensive range of digital cameras, if reports are to be believed.

Pocket Lint states that the manufacturer has issued a release suggesting that it is about to make a big announcement that will impact the digital camera market.

The site notes the announcement comes ahead of a planned press conference at the IFA tech show and that August the 14th has been pencilled in as the date that the announcement will be made.

A “teaser invite” sent to the website states: “Sony will soon be making an exciting digital camera announcement,” which it notes could be anything from a new range of compact models to an update to its alpha series.

For those unwilling to wait the manufacturer has a number of digital cameras available that suit various need and budgets, such as the 7.2-megapixel Sony Cybershot W120 and the Sony Cybershot T300.

Sony CyberShot DSC-H50 offers tilting screen

A new camera from Sony is the manufacturer’s latest attempt to bridge the gap between compact and digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) models.

The Sony CyberShot DSC-H50 is a 9.1-megapixel camera that is equipped with a 15x optical zoom, Carl Zeiss lens and a host of extra features, Trusted Reviews reports.

In addition to a three-inch LCD display fitted on a tilting hinge to allow users to take shots from waist level while viewing the image from above, the camera comes with a number of focus options.

“Sony has also included face detection and smile detection, which fires the shutter when the camera recognises the curve of the mouth,” the article adds.

However, the Sony CyberShot DSC-H50 does suffer from some handling problems and the review concludes that for this reason another model may be better for digital camera shoppers.

One such camera could be the Fuji Finepix S9600, a nine-megapixel unit with a 10.7x optical zoom and two-inch tilting LCD display.

Sony DSC T300 put to the test

The Sony DSC T300 is a compact model that offers great design and a range of useful features, according to a new review.

Cameras. co. uk reports that the ten-megapixel model offers a 5x optical zoom lens and is able to cope with a range of different shots in various conditions.

The review states the camera’s large 3.5-inch touch screen is a welcome addition and has a zoom lens that performs well when at minimum and maximum levels.

“The Sony DSC T300 takes a good picture and in my opinion has a stunning design,” it states, adding that the unit “is well worth considering” as a purchase for the style-conscious buyer.

In terms of features, Sony’s DSC T300, which is available in black or silver, has a Smile Shutter function, PhotoTV HD compatibility, Enhanced Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Recognition and boasts a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and the manufacturer’s Bionz processor.

Sony A300 ‘builds on popular features’

A new digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera from Sony has been launched that uses the manufacturer’s Bionz processing technology.

According the Smarthouse website, the Sony A300 builds on the company’s existing models and incorporates features Bionz image processing to enhance response times and image quality.

In addition, the 10.2-megapixel model will feature Live View technology and Quick Auto Focus - which one spokesman states has already benefited a number of other cameras in the Sony range.

Business development manager for Sony Australia’s DSLR division, John Wallace, said that by equipping the camera with these features users would be able to make the leap to more professional photography.

“Incorporating the extremely popular Auto Focus Live View that has been highly successful on the A350, the A300 makes it easy for digital still camera users to promote themselves to DSLR and get better results,” he said.

The Sony Cybershot H50 is another model which benefits from the inclusion of the Bionz processor to enhance image quality and response times.

Sony A350 comes ‘highly recommended’

Sony’s latest digital SLR model offers something the manufacturer has not had before, a truly “professional model”, according to a new review.

Computer Active reports the addition of the Sony A350 to the company’s range is welcome as it gives those looking to take their digital photography more seriously an extra option.

It is suggested that Sony has been slow to come to the digital SLR market with an impressive model and states that this 14-megapixel model addresses this concern.

With light sensitivity extending from ISO100 to ISO3200, a 2.5 fps continuous image capture and Super Steadyshot technology the review states that the Sony A350 comes “highly recommended”.

“In terms of the images produced, colours are warm without being unrealistic, white balance is more accurate than that from Olympus’s range and noise is well controlled up to and including the highest ISO setting,” the site concludes.

For those looking for a point-and-shoot model the manufacturer offers the 7.2-megapixel
Sony Cybershot W120 and Sony Cybershot 8.1-megapixel T70, among others.
