Samsung i8 ‘a colourful travel companion’

A new digital camera from Samsung has been praised for its ability to act as a companion for the travelling consumer.

Trusted Reviews reports that the Samsung i8 is clearly an attempt at fusing a number of gadgets into one handy travel item, in that incorporates an mp3 player, text viewer and multimedia playback.

The article also notes that as the 8.2-megapixel camera is available in a wide range of colours and can be purchased for under £100, making it “not bad value for money”.

Overall, the site concludes that the Samsung i8 is “a fairly good attempt to turn a digital camera into an all-in-one travel gadget,” adding that “it performs well, with particularly good low light capability and the built-in mp3 player works well”.

The camera is also equipped with a 3x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD screen, face detection technology and a self portrait function - which could make it Facebook or MySpace users.

New SLR ‘is Canon’s lightest’

Canon has launched a new digital single-lens reflex (SLR) model that claims to be the company’s lightest.

Which? states that the new Canon Eos 1000D digital SLR is a worthy addition to the company’s range and would be an ideal purchase for entry-level photographers.

In a review for the model the consumer watchdog drew particular attention to the Canon Eos 1000D range of features that in addition to SLR technology offers the manufacturer’s live view facility.

The 10.1-megapixel 1000D also features a 2.5-inch LCD screen, has multiple wide viewing angles and weighs around 450g.

“The ISO can be set between 100 and 1,600, and there are eight white-balance settings, including full manual control,” Which? states.
