A new review of the Canon Ixus 80 IS has praised the camera for its “very impressive” construction, speed of operation and easy of use.

Photographyblog. com said the “credit card-sized” compact adds to and improves upon several features that have become standard on point-and-shoot models.

The eight-megapixel camera comes with face detection and automatic red-eye correction, as well as a tracking function and motion detection technology that compensates for movement of the camera or subject.

Also included with the Canon Ixus 80 IS is a memory card, which the review describes as a “welcome addition” for beginners, as it allows them to “start snapping straight away”.

Image-wise, the Canon Ixus 80 IS comes with an expanded range of shooting modes, bringing its total to 18, plus in-camera photo effects and video shooting modes such as long play and time-lapse.

The camera is rounded off with a 3x zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD monitor for image and video playback.

Other cameras in the Canon Ixus range include the Canon Ixus 860, the Canon Ixus 75 and the “big brother” of the Canon Ixus 80 IS – the ten-megapixel Canon Ixus 90 IS.
