The new Canon Ixus 960 IS compact digital camera is easy to use and has been applauded for its photo and video quality, according to a recent PC Pro review.

Released as a replacement for the now-discontinued Canon Ixus 900 Ti, the new camera has a 12.1-megapixel sensor – an improvement on its predecessor’s 10-megapixel sensor – although photographers can also opt for eight-megapixel capture if they prefer.

According to the reviewer, the camera is comparable to the more-expensive Nikon P5100 and does not disappoint as a “quality point-and-shoot, carry anywhere model”.

It also features image stabilisation, so photographers can take handheld shots in low light, as well as a video function with full audio recording 30 frames per second at 640 x 480, although both zoom and focus functions are locked while video is recording.

According to Canon, the Ixus 960 IS also boasts a 3.7x optical zoom lens, a red-eye correction function, 18 shooting modes and a 2.5-inch LCD viewscreen.
