Fujifilm’s FinePix S8000fd has won a rave review from a US technology writer, who described the device as delivering “stunning” images.

Mark Kellner, of the Washington Times newspaper, praised the eight megapixel camera’s automatic mode and said he had been “really impressed” by its performance, suggesting it leaves snappers with “not a lot to worry about”.

Designed for the “enthusiast photographer”, the camera boasts an impressive 18 times optical zoom and offers photographers the ability to take up to 15 frames per second with its high speed shooting feature.

“The S8000fd is notable for several things, not the least being that it is a fixed-lens digital camera, but one that thinks it’s a single-lens reflex model with interchangeable lenses,” Mr Kellner commented, explaining that it is possible to switch between settings “with the press of a lever”.

“That level of versatility allowed me to get several shots I might have otherwise missed,” he added.

Last month, the FinePix S8000fd won plaudits from Mark Goldstein of photographyblog.com, who said it is “Fujifilm’s best attempt yet to fuse the advantages of compact and DSLR cameras together”.
