For those who mix green fingers with keen fingers, the Garden Photographer of the Year competition focusing on a range of categories could be the ideal leisure pursuit.

With categories entitled My Garden, Garden Views, Plant portraits, Life in the Garden and Trees, snappers are invited to submit their favourite captured images linking to these themes in order to be in with a chance of having their photo displayed in an exhibition at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London.

The winning images will be selected by a panel of both industry and art professionals it has been announced and those chosen will go on show next year between May and September.

Chris Beardshaw, who has judged the event before, said: “Our plants and gardens are delightfully dynamic and effervescent – subtly and constantly morphing. So much can be missed at the blink of an eye but, thankfully, it is precisely that precious moment that the camera captures for eternity.”

A closing date for entries has been set for January 31st next year so there is plenty of time for photographers to get busy with their digital camera in the garden or other green spaces and capture that perfect picture.
