The new Olympus SP-560 UZ model boosts a 2.5 inch screen and the firm promises it will provide the user with “a new kind of photographic freedom”.

In a statement, Olympus said the camera was especially suited to capturing images of “action-rich situations” thanks to its 15 frames per second capacity and 18x wide optical zoom. “The clever pre-capture mode means five frames are snapped and captured even before the shutter is released – so you will never again have just missed that big moment,” it promised.

For snappers who like capturing incredible underwater shots, the PT-037 underwater case is available, allowing the camera to be used under up to 40m under water. Like Sony’s DSC-T70 and DSC-T200 Cyber-shot series cameras, the Olympus SP-560 UZ also contains technology that is capable of automatically taking a photograph at the moment someone in the picture smiles. Anti-blurring dual image stabilisation and face detection technology designed to help photographers capture correctly focused images also comes as standard.
