Following the recent announcement from Casio of the Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200, the first 12 megapixel camera, Panasonic has unveiled its new 12.2 megapixel compact digital camera, the Lumix DMC-FX100.

The Lumix DMC-FX100 features a 28mm wide-angle lens that allows photographers to capture expansive views of cities and landscapes and is equipped with a 3.6x optical zoom.

The 12.2 effective megapixels will also afford photographers the opportunity to zoom up to seven times, while still maintaining crystal clear three megapixel images, while there is also a built-in image stabiliser to minimise blurring.

As with the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200, the new Panasonic camera features intelligent ISO control that detects whether a subject is moving and changes the ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly, to further reduce blur.

The DMC-FX100 is capable of shooting hi-definition photos for full screen viewing on a 1080p HD-enable widescreen TV and will be available from July.

In the Lumix range at present, the FX30 offers photographers a resolution of 7.2 effective megapixels, a 2.5-inch LCD display, 3.6x optical zoom and MEGA Optical Image Stabilization.

The Panasonic FZ8 offers the same resolution and similar features to the FX30, but comes with a 12x optical zoom.
