Photography comp encourages all to get involved

A new competition has been launched that could encourage lovers of the outdoors to reach for their digital cameras.
The International Garden Photographer of the Year, which is organised in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, will offer entrants the chance to win a top prize and prestigious title, Digital Camera Magazine reports.
In addition to more than £20,000 worth of cash and equipment, the winning snapper will be given the honour of being the Garden Photographer of the Year and will see their work exhibited in a “major exhibition” at Kew next summer.
“Categories include Plant Portraits, People in the Garden and 2009’s special theme, World Botanic Gardens,” the site advises, adding that the entry fee is £10 and applicants must have their pictures in by January 31st 2009.
With a range of digital cameras available to suit most pockets - from the 7.2-megapixel Samsung Digimax S760 to the 14-megapixel Sigma DP1 - there is no excuse for budding photographers to get involved.
